Merlin was the one who found Shin as a baby and adopted him. He spoils Shin a lot and cares deeply for him. He teaches Shin all the magical knowledge he has.
Melinda Bowen[]
Merlin and Melinda were married in the past, proving they loved each other, but then divorced (due to SPOILERS BELOW). She also nags and scolds him a lot, due to influencing Shin's reckless behavior and ignorance of the world by neglecting to teach him everything BUT magic.
Train Wolford[]
He and Melinda had a child, whom they dearly loved. She had more influence over Merlin as Train wanted to be a magic craftsman, but he was also skilled in magic spells himself. But one day, he was killed by a demonic beast. The fact that they let him die made them regret it so much that they were distressed just being together. Thus, his demise was the biggest turning point in their lives which gave way for their divorce.
